Choosing your fixtures and fittings

We share some tips on choosing these functional components.

1. BE REALISTIC WITH PRICE.

If something seems incredibly cheap.. it usually is.

2. BUY THE BEST QUALITY YOU CAN AFFORD

There’s no point updating a bathroom if it’ll only last 2-5 years. Good quality items should last a few decades. A bit of extra investment in quality will cost you less time and grief in the long run.

3. PICK AN AUSSIE SUPPLIER

Make sure the products are approved for use in Australia and come from reputable and established Australian businesses. That way, if something does go wrong you have somewhere to turn. Your decisions will last a long time, so choose wisely.

We can always guide you here but if you want to do a bit of your own research a good starting point is Harvey Norman or Hardware & General (which has a nice walk-through showroom at most locations). For something unique - Oliver MacLatchy's Wood Melbourne range includes concrete spout designs (featured image top right) and basins from reclaimed timber. Something handmade can really add a stunning feature to your bathroom.

4. READ ONLINE REVIEWS

This is a good idea before buying. There’s so many review sites with valuable information and customer feedback.

5. APPLIANCE PICKS

Invest in appliances with good sustainable energy ratings. This is a must because it saves you quite a bit on your household bills. Also ensure the appliances suit your personal functional needs and aesthetically complement the overall concept.

I'm a small business support specialist who believes that when business owners feel empowered and in control there will be no stopping them!

After a decade spent in advertising and branding, then moving into more managerial roles for small design agencies, I decided to embrace my all-rounder skillset and dedicate myself to helping solo small business owners. That is - those juggling multiple hats who need support branding and marketing their business, plus managing their finances.

While the bulk of my support is 100% handled by me! I also enlist the help of my crazily talented support crew - other bookkeepers, graphic designers, copywriters and those with specialised skillsets.

So whether it's just me or a small team I enlists, the aims is the same - to inspire, instruct and help you with the small tasks so you you don’t feel like you’re completely alone juggling all those hats!
